Whilst most football supporters around the world believed Gary Cahill’s red card came as a result of a controversial challenge in Chelsea’s home defeat to Burnley, it was actually caused by John Crumble, 37, from London, it has today emerged.

Speaking on Saturday night when out with friends in his local pub in Hackney, Crumble revealed that Cahill’s red card came as a result of his decision to pick him on Fantasy Premier League.

“He was such a good pick… guaranteed a sh*tload of clean-sheets all season, an easy home game against Burnley… picking him was a genius play by myself.

“From the moment I picked him though, he was just doomed. Chelsea were doomed.”

Friends of Crumble were not so convinced by his outlandish claims, however, with all 3 agreeing that he should “stop talking over the National Lottery draw”.

“You don’t believe me but look at the facts – I didn’t have Kurt Zouma and he didn’t get sent off. I didn’t have Wes Morgan and he didn’t get sent off either. But oh, I have Cahill and he does get sent off.

“Convenient?” Crumble added
